About Us Our Team
About the ELCA
The ELCA is the national expression for our larger church body

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is the largest Lutheran denomination in the U.S., formed in 1988. Currently the ELCA has over 8,800 congregations in the United States alone. Rooted in the teachings of Martin Luther, the ELCA emphasizes God's grace, the authority of the Bible, and the sacraments of baptism and communion. Known for its inclusivity, the ELCA advocates for social justice, racial and economic equality, and inclusion of all people. It is committed to ecumenical partnerships, global mission work, and addressing social issues while fostering spiritual growth and community engagement. The ELCA affirms and operates from an understanding of the church's mission statement: "God's work. Our hands."

About the NC Synod
Our local (statewide) partnership

The North Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the 65 synods in the ELCA. It serves as a regional body that connects and supports over 200 congregations in North Carolina. The synod works to foster spiritual growth, promote community outreach, and address social justice issues in alignment with the ELCA's mission and values.

The North Carolina Synod is committed to nurturing faith, equipping leaders, and engaging in mission both locally and globally. It emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and the importance of service to the marginalized. The synod provides resources for education, advocacy, and ministry support, aiming to strengthen the congregations and the wider church.

With a strong focus on fostering relationships, the synod also plays an important role in ecumenical partnerships and interfaith dialogue. It seeks to make a positive impact in communities through its various ministries, which include youth programs, disaster response, and social justice initiatives. The synod’s leadership works to ensure that the ELCA’s message of grace, love, and justice is shared widely across North Carolina.
